Celebrating 10 years of arm-ripping, swamp-mom-decapitating, dragon-slaying heroism!
Beowulf Camp 2025 is the tenth year of my signature summer camp for teens.

Focused on literature, history, and action, Beowulf Camp explores the epic poem through sword fighting, leather working, theatre games, and giant puppet making.
This year, I'm adding blacksmithing, natural dyeing, and more to the mix!
The camp started in my backyard when I lived at a small house in downtown Greer. I wanted to focus on active learning, and I wanted to be able to work from home and raise my son.
The first summer, I had two students! We did metal working (dangerously), chain maille making, and a few other activities.
From there, the camp grew as I added new skills to my own repertoire.

Two years ago, I started collaborating with White Knight Entertainment to create giant dragon puppets (a collab followed by trebuchet building at an Arthurian-based camp).
In 2024, I lost my space and had to miss the actual 10th anniversary. This year, I decided to take a giant financial risk, and I'll be holding it at Hagood Mill Historic Site in Pickens, SC, for three days!
The blacksmith-in-residence will be teaching the blacksmithing class, and WKE will return for more giant puppets.
This blog mini-series will follow a few of the projects that I'm adding or making to keep the Camp exciting and evolving.
Do you have any favorite summer camp memories? Let me know in the comments!

two of my boys would have loved this camp. I grew up going to music camps and my boys did as well. Camp was huge for us and we have so many fond memories.
This sounds absolutely epic, Amy! I love how Beowulf Camp blends literature with hands-on creativity—and giant dragon puppets?! Incredible. Can’t wait to follow the behind-the-scenes magic this year. Wishing you all the success at Hagood Mill!
Beowulf Camp sounds like an epic adventure! I’ve never done anything like this, but it’s amazing how you’ve turned a small idea into such a creative, hands-on experience. Wishing you all the best for the 10th year at Hagood Mill!
